The Calorex DH 30 has been installed in a garage building that houses part of a collection of at least a dozen ‘super-cars’ owned by a private collector in the North East of England. The collection is worth well in excess of £1 million and includes the latest limited edition £550,000 ‘Enzo’ model.

The dehumidifier was specified by Dennis Gwynne, technical director of the Andrews Sykes Group. Andrews Sykes is one of Europe’s largest suppliers of humidity and temperature control equipment. “The collector had extended the garages at his home so that he could bring the majority of his Ferraris together under one roof,” explains Mr Gwynne. “Although the building is centrally heated, the humidity issue needed to be addressed.”

He adds: “Excessive moisture in the air can lead to deterioration of body work and upholstery – even in a heated environment like this one – so it is absolutely vital that a classic collection of this kind is stored in exactly the right conditions.”

Having surveyed the building, Mr Gwynne specified the Calorex DH30 refrigerant dehumidifier to establish and sustain ideal climate conditions. This wall-mounted cabinet has fully automated operation and offers efficient dehumidification over a temperature range of 0°C to 40°C. At 20°C it is capable of removing 30 litres of water every 24 hours.

“This unit was ideal in capacity and performance for the job and provided the most cost-effective and energy-efficient solution,” says Mr Gwynne. An added benefit is that the DH 30’s ability to recover heat from the moist air, heats the discharged air, thus cutting alternative heating costs.

The DH 30 also comes in a through-the-wall (TTW) version, to allow installation in an adjacent space. Other potential applications for this model include the dehumidification of:
